Malawi’s National Audit Office (NAO) has disclosed that it is to submit a report on ten embassies probed over fraud that occurred in the foreign mission offices.

NAO spokesperson Rabson Kagwamminga disclosed that they are to submit a report this week to the Malawi government through the ministry of foreign affairs.

Kagwamminga added that the report contains audit details for ten embassies out of thirteen that NAO probed.

The ten embassies in the report include London, Brussels, Berlin, Tokyo, New Delhi, Beijing, Dubai, Cairo, Johannesburg and Dodoma.

“This week we are issuing our final report in regards to those audits, in the next few months we should finish with others,” said Kagwamminga.

President Peter Mutharika ordered for a probe in all Malawian embassies following reports of siphoning of financial resources by embassy workers.

This followed reports that funds amounting to K293 million were diverted into personal accounts at a Malawian embassy in Ethiopia.

The revelations witnessed the arrest of former deputy ambassador to Ethiopia Doreen Kapanga over her role in the looting at the embassy in Ethiopia.

NAO is yet to probe other five embassies.
