Red Lions leapfrogged Premier Bet Wizards at the top of the Super League standings thanks to their hard fought 1-nil victory over Dwangwa United at Balaka Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

MacPeter Makwale scored the only goal in the first half to send the Zomba based soldiers top of the standings with 15 points from 8 games played so far.

It was a tough encounter as the visitors defended jealously to frustrate the hosts who were coming from a 1-nil defeat to Civil Sporting Club last week.

Red Lions (In Red) leapfrog (In White) on the league standings.

With Dwangwa United beating Blantyre United on Saturday, MacDonald Mtetemera’s boys were in for another three points but it took Makwale’s intelligence to foil their plans as he scored the goal in the opening 20 minutes of the match.

As for the visitors, the defeat leaves them in the drop zone with 8 points from 9 league games.

Another win could have moved them out of the bottom three as Civil Sporting Club were on bay.

Chitipa United are anchoring the standings with four points from 8 games while Red Lions lead the standings with 15 points from 8 games, seconded by Wizards with the same number of points from the same number of games.

Be Forward Wanderers are yet to concede a goal in the five matches they have played so far and are the only side yet to register a defeat in the ongoing season.
