Flames, Malawi Queens return home

Malawi

The Flames and the Queens were representing Malawi at the ongoing Cosafa Castle Cup in South Africa and at the just ended African Netball Championship in Uganda respectively.

The Flames were booted out of Cosafa in the group stages of the competition while the Queens finished on second position to win a silver medal.

Both teams arrived through Chileka Airport at exactly 3 O’clock in the afternoon.

Flames back home.

The Flames played three games without scoring a goal, losing 2-nil to Tanzania before playing to goalless draws to Mauritius and Angola to anchor group B with two points.

The only positive thing was to see Dalitso Sailesi and Ernest Kakhobwe being voted men of the match in the last two games.

As for head coach Ronny Van Geneugden, his first seven games in charge of the team have only registered a single win over Comoros Island in the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, losing three times and drawing  three.

As for the Malawi Queens, their performance against Uganda, Zimbabwe and Zambia was below par but head coach Griffin Saenda was very happy with the way the young players he picked performed in the whole tournament.

She Cranes of Uganda won the tournament for the first time in history.

Malawi was the highest ranked side at the competition.

  5. I remember FAM swallowed their pride and informed the nation that they will not participate in any competition and they will be busy doing grassroot football. So who told them to change heart? Apart from losing the game the nation has lost a lot of money.
