Japan gives Malawi US$17.7 million

The Japanese government has given Malawi a 2 billion Japanese Yen (17.7 million USD) grant for training teachers in the country.

Writing on its official Facebook page, the Japanese embassy in the country says Japan has approved a grant amounting to 2 billion Japanese Yen for the project of expanding and upgrading Domasi College of Education.

According to the Japanese embassy in the country, the project will complement Malawi Government’s efforts in addressing the challenges of shortage of teachers in secondary schools.

On Wednesday, Mr Hirotsugu Ikeda, charge’ d’Affairs ad Interim of Japan to Malawi exchanged notes with Malawi Finance Minister Goodall Gondwe.

The country still faces shortage of teachers in both public secondary and primary schools.

The situation makes teachers to have a big role in making sure that the learners or students are learning effectively since the teacher-pupil ratio is high.
