Flames and Premier Bet Wizards left back Ian Chinyama was stretchered off in the 55th minute when he collided with Mauritius’s winger Saranandif in an aerial combat during the goalless draw in group A Cosafa Castle Cup on Tuesday.
Now, the left back has undergone an eye surgery as he had three fractures around the right eye.
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) confirmed the development on Wednesday afternoon.
“He has been admitted at Fern Crest Hospital in Rustenburg after suffering three fractures in the face during the Flames match against Mauritius at the ongoing Cosafa Cup on Tuesday evening.
“He collided with a Mauritius striker in the second half and was stretchered off straight to the hospital where scans have revealed he has three fractures around the right eye,” reads a statement released by the FA.
