The Chitipa based side are however still bottom of the table with four points from eight games having scored four goals.

Before the match, Chitipa had played 7 games, losing six and drawing one.

The Super League rookies went into the game with hope that they will get a win.

Wacheta Mwenefumbo reinforced Chitipa’s hopes when he found the back of the net in the first half.

Christopher Mtambo then doubled the lead with a well taken goal, making the home fans leap with joy.

In the second half, Chitipa continued to dominate possession but the visitors managed to pull one back through a Stain Pandame header.

However, Alick Phiri put the game beyond Tigers’ reach after he scored Chitipa’s third to make it 3-1.

In stoppage time, Pandame converted from the spot to score his and Tigers’ second to give Chitipa a fright.

But the rookies managed to hold on to their lead until the final whistle.

Chitipa United coach Kondwani Mwalweni was in cloud nine following the win and he thanked God and his players for the three points.

Mwalweni said their main problem was failing to score goals and they worked on the weakness for the past week.

“I said before that our main problem was to score goals. The whole last week we were looking into it and today my boys showed what we were doing in training,” he said.

He then urged the club’s supporters to trust the team saying Chitipa will stay in the league.

On his part, Tigers coach Patricio Kulemeka blamed his players for missing a lot of chances saying they didn’t play as planned.
