The government of China has handed over 14 motorcycles to Malawi Police Service (MPS) as a way of enhancing security in the country.

Chinese Ambassador to Malawi Shi Ting Wang presented the bicycles to Police on Friday at Area 30 police ground in Lilongwe.

In his remarks, Wang pledged that China will keep assisting the country whenever it needs support.

He also said that he will soon fulfil the promise of donating vehicles to MPS.

China has also pledged to build good houses for police officers and to introduce scholarships for the officers to further their education.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Internal Security and Home affairs Grace Chiumia commended the Chinese government on behalf of Malawi government saying the donation came on time.

Chiumia added that the 14 motorcycles will assist police officers to reach areas which are hard to reach more especially in rural areas.

“These motorcycles will help the police officers to reach areas which cannot easily accessed by vehicles and which are far from police units,” she explained.

The minister further said the donation will also assist in the reduction of crime in the country.
