Malawi’s Department of Immigration has handed six of its officers to Police over a missing booklet that contained Visa stickers.

According to reports, the booklet went missing a month ago at Chileka Airport in the commercial city of Blantyre.

Confirming the development, immigration department national spokesperson Joseph Chauwa said investigations on the matter led to the arrest of the six on Thursday.

“I can confirm that some officers have been arrested. A Visa stickers’ book went missing a month ago. We have been conducting investigations together with the police to establish how the book went missing,” said Chauwa.

The six officers are yet to appear in court.

Immigration department officers are reported to be among the most corrupt government workers in Malawi as they demand bribes from citizens.

The officers demand additional cash on the travel documents’ charges for people to be given at the required period.
