Malawi’s Department of Immigration has expressed concern over the increased number of people who are using uncharted routes and improper traveling documents when going abroad.

Police publicist in the immigration department at Mwanza border, Pasqually Zulu expressed the worry following the deportation of eight Malawian nationals by Mozambican authorities on Thursday, June 15.

The publicist told this publication that four of the Malawians had valid passports which were not stamped whilst the rest did not have any valid travel document.

He further said amongst the group, two were women while the rest were men. The eight are from Dowera village, in the area of Paramount Chief Mm’belwa in Mzimba District.

In a related development, three Congolese nationals have been arrested at the same formation (Mwanza) for illegal entry into Malawi.

Zulu said the three had fake Malawi emergency travel documents bearing the names of Yamu Mulanda, Limbikani Andrew and Chimwemwe Banda all from Msusa village in the area of Traditional Authority Tsabango in Lilongwe.

They were nabbed in a Marsmerry Coach registration number FN10kv GP during police routine checks at the border.

The illegal immigrants have since been detained at Mwanza Police as authorities are still investigating their reasons for coming to Malawi.
