Woman denied exit for tampering with Malawian passport

A 28-year-old lady was on Wednesday refused exit at the Mwanza border for tampering with her Malawian passport.

According to Mwanza border police publicist Pasqually Zulu, the lady has been identified as Zainab Mandale.

Zulu said the woman was in a South Africa bound bus when her passport was found with pages bearing different passport numbers at the border.

Upon being questioned, Mandale admitted to have done it with assistance from a relative in Mangochi district.

She further told police that she overstayed during a previous trip to the rainbow nation, so tampering with the document was one way of concealing the offence.

Zainab Mandale hails from Mpondasi village, Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi, and her passport number is MA 369103 issued on 24th June, 2013.

Meanwhile police at the immigration department are urging all Malawians to refrain from tampering with passports saying it is a security document.
