Patrick Mabedi named Kaizer Chiefs Assistant Coach

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender and Malawi international Patrick Mabedi has been appointed the club’s new assistant coach, Malawi24 has learnt.

Mabedi who played for Amakhosi from 1998 to 2006 has replaced Ghanaian John Paintsil.

He captained Kaizer Chiefs to their 2003/04 and 2004/05 league titles‚ their first league wins in the Premier Soccer League era.

Mabedi says he is delighted for the new task at Chiefs.

“I am happy to be back home. I look forward to making a contribution to the success of this great institution.This is a privilege. I wish to thank the club management for this opportunity‚” Mabedi is quoted by South Africa’s Timeslive.

The 43 year old has been with among other teams Cape Town All Stars where he served as head coach by September 2016.

He also worked with Muhsin Ertugral as his assistant at Black Aces last season, will replace Mlungisi “Professor”, who was fired after a poor start to the 2016/17 season.

By August 2016, Mabedi was assistant coach for former Malawi national team caretaker coach Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan.
