In his remarks, Mutharika said a number of agreements have been made that are expected to boost the welfare of Malawians.

Mutharika disclosed that he had discussions with the Chancellor of Oxford University who has accepted to partner with Malawian universities under the new initiative called Oxford-Africa initiative in various aspects such as research in agriculture, economics and science as well as curriculum review and that discussions on how to carry out the exercise have started.

He added that Malawians with small businesses will benefit from his trip to Brussels as they will be offered loans from European Investment Bank since discussions are underway with the bank.

President Mutharika then condoled the families of people who died in four accidents that occurred over the weekend and wished those who sustained injuries a quick recovery.

Mutharika left the country for Brussels in Belgium where he attended the 2017 European Development Days (EDD) before heading to United Kingdom where he addressed students at Oxford University.
