Angry students from Chilunga Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Zomba are reported to have beaten their teacher for stopping them from attending his class.

According to sources who spoke on condition of anonymity to Malawi24, the students were given punishment which they failed to do.

The teacher (name withheld) then demanded that the students were to be missing his lessons.

“Before this incidence, after failing to comply to the punishment the teacher gave the students, he told them to stop attending his class until they are ready to comply. So, previously they’ve been coming out of the class every time he enters the class. ”

fistIt was revealed that yesterday, they agreed not to come out once he comes, and they did exactly that when he finally entered. Seeing that the students were still seated despite his presence, he demanded their leave which they defiantly declined. This compelled the teacher to physically try forcing them out.

” The first one seeing that the teacher was angry, he moved out. The second one stood up to follow suit but the third one clenched his fists in challenge to the teacher. The brawl ensued between the two. Then others including the one who was about to go out fiercely charged on the teacher while the rest held him (the teacher) tight. It was pandemonic!” said the source.

Later a teacher who was teaching in another class came to the rescue of his friend.

  3. Clapping hands for students who beat their teacher?? There must be a reason why they were sent out of class.. If only you were teachers you appreciate the behaviour of some of the students that are in schools these days.. And by beating the teacher, that alone explains what kind of students they are.. Only those who were/are troublesome at school would clap hands for these students. Shameful!

    1. True! there is no reason for sending a well behaved student out of the classroom, its really shameful to see some people supporting this. the teacher did not beat, and they were not supposed to beat.

  11. If you are a teacher, you know how annoying some students can become, putting a burden on the innocent ones. according to ethics, an act is justifiable if it is meant to benefit the majority. the teacher did that out of anger and those students were supposed to use other better approaches than beating. they have committed a crime and law shall take action on them. as malawians, it is unheard to promote and encourage such unruly behaviour.

    1. yes I am, we face such situations, and when there is no other possible ways to manage such difficult students who cannot comply to your commands, thats the only way to treat them. a classteacher is the manager of his or her own class. if the affected students are wise enough, they can humbly approach the teacher through the head. some one once said; ‘in a battle between the students and the teacher, the student is always a victim, though not physical, and instant.
