The number of deaths due to lightning strikes are on the rise in Malawi as another death has been registered in Machinga district.

The rains which are blessing the nation and are accompanied by thunder and lightning have claimed the life of a man in Machinga.

According to Machinga police spokesperson Davie Sulumba, the deceased has been identified as 26 year-old Erick Idrissa.

Sulumba said the deceased who comes from Kambona village, Traditional authority Bwananyambi in Mangochi was struck on 15th December in his mother-in-law’s toilet.

“The deceased went to play football at Namisika primary school ground and after the match heavy rains accompanied by lightning started. Instead of going home he went to visit his mother-in law whilst there he went to the toilet and that is when lightning struck him,” Sulumba said.

Postmortem results from Nainunje health centre revealed that he died due to shock from lightning. According to reports, this is the tenth incident to be registered this year and it has come few weeks after another man was also struck to death near Mbayani primary school in.

  1. The secrete between man and God is that man doesn’t know the expiring date of his life. God’s calling is very different from man’s calling. When God is calling someone to take his life or to give him worthy, he doesn’t ask for our authority. And you can not hide any more. So Don’t questioning God, WHY? Just know his wise is higher than ours.
