The Malawi Police says they are still in the hunt for murder suspect Ali Kaka Chinemba following his escape soon after he was granted bail.
Kaka was arrested last year in July for shooting 20 year-old Davie Kadzuwa after they picked up a quarrel in Manja over parking space.
He was granted bail but the court later revoked it on the grounds that he was not attending court sessions. By that time however the murder suspect had already vanished.
The granting of bail to Ali Kaka attracted condemnation from residents of Manja and Chimwankhunda who argued that other murder suspects get remanded while awaiting trial.
The residents then took the law into their hands and torched Kaka’s house and cars.
Meanwhile, with Malawians demanding justice, the police are still looking for Kaka whose whereabouts remain unknown though there are reports that he sought ‘refuge’ in South Africa. But some residents in Manja claim that the murder suspect sometimes sneaks into the area especially at night.
However in an interview with this reporter, Blantyre Police publicist Elizabeth Divala said they are still investigating the matter and added that they have not received reports of Kaka sneaking into the area.
“This is not true. We the Malawi police we are still searching for him as you know that he was granted bail by the court and it was revoked in the absence of the police officers. “After we got search warrant unfortunately he was not there. So if there is anyone who knows his whereabouts, they must report to any police formation,” said Divala.
Kaka has been arrested twice in the past: for using his father’s passport and for having a hand in the abduction of three people in 2012 together with his boss at that time Ralph Kasambara who is serving a Prison sentence for conspiring to murder Paul Mphwiyo.
In the 2014 elections he failed to secure a parliamentary seat for Blantyre city south constituency.
