Two men are behind bars in Mzuzu for killing a woman after they realised that they were both having an affair with her.
Police in the city have arrested Bruce Mtegha, 38, and 45 year-old Edward Nkhoma for murdering 38 year-old Chimwemwe Jere.
Mzuzu police spokesperson Cecilia Mfune said on November 23 this year the woman left her house in Hilltop location to visit her boyfriend in Masasa but she did not return home.
“Three days later, she was found dead in an uncompleted house but in a decomposed state while covered with a blanket. She also had deep cuts on the head and the left hand was chopped off but it was not found at the scene,” Mfune said.
Police investigations led to the arrest of Mtegha and Nkhoma on Sunday. When quizzed, the suspects said they killed the woman because she was dating both of them at the same time.
The two told police that after beating the woman to death they covered her body with a blanket and dumped her in the uncompleted building.
Postmortem which was conducted at Mzuzu Central Hospital indicated she died due to severe loss of blood.
Mtegha hails from Makwakwa village in the area of Traditional Authority Mpherembe in Mzimba while Nkhoma is from T/A Chulu in Kasungu district.
They will appear before court to answer the charge of murder contrary to section 209 of the penal code.
