Malawian killed by South African wife

A Malawian man has been stabbed to death by his South African wife after he went home drunk on Saturday in Cape Town, Malawi24 has learnt.

The deceased has been identified as John Kawonga who married a South African woman and lived with her in Dunnoon area in Cape Town.

Christopher Nkhoma, a Malawian who is Kawonga’s neighbour told Malawi24 that during the night of Saturday Kawonga went home drunk and that did not go well with the wife such that a quarrel broke out between the two.

During the fight, the South African woman took a knife and stabbed Kawonga before running away with the couple’s child.

“Late Kawonga was my neighbour and I witnessed his death. I failed to go and rescue him since here in South Africa doing that is like putting your own life at risk,” Nkhoma said.

According to Nkhoma, the body of Kawonga is currently in mortuary at a hospital in Cape Town for postmortem.

He further said that the remains of Kawonga are expected to be brought in Malawi after all arrangements are completed.

Late Kawonga hailed from Nkhatabay district in Malawi.
