Eight Under 20 teams in the Northern Region will compete in a football bonanza during the festive period.
The two day bonanza will be played at Mzuzu stadium from 17th to 18th December 2016.
Speaking to Malawi24, one of the three people sponsoring the bonanza Benjamin Thole said that they want to give young players something to do during this period.
“We decided to bring eight teams from three districts of Rumphi, Nkhatabay and Mzuzu. Our aim is to give the Under 20 players something to do as part of their Christmas. We cannot talk of football when we sideline these talent,” he said.
According to Thole, they have managed to source about K150,000 so that the teams should battle it out.
“This is just part of Christmas gift and we are urging other people and companies to do the same, by doing this we are building the future flames,” said Thole.
The eight teams that will participate in the tournament are Wocca FC from Rumphi, Vizala plantation and Maganga Swallows from Nkhatabay, as well as Topic Academy, Moyale Youth, Sanweka FC, Young Destroyers, and Itel United from Mzuzu. The winner will walk away with K40,000 while the runner up will receive K30,000.
