Jeremiah 33:1-3 ” Moreover the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying. Thus said the LORD the maker thereof, the LORD that formed it, to establish it; the LORD is his name. Call to me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you know not.”

PrayerThe scripture above shows us that God was speaking to Jeremiah while in prison. God saw that Jeremiah needed help but still asked Jeremiah to pray so that God can do something. We need to understand that the earth was given to man.

Ps 115:16 “The heavens belong to the Lord, but the earth he has given to mankind.” Man is responsible for the earth. God only intervenes in the affairs of man when we call upon Him. Heaven responds to what the earth determines. If the earth decides to do nothing, heaven responds the same. If we do something heaven responds likewise. Therefore don’t sit and watch. You need to pray.Matthew 18:18-19 ” Truly I say to you, Whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.”

Dont sit down and just wish something good happens. Dont sit down and complain. God doesnt respond to any of these. He responds to prayers of His children.

The Book of Acts chapter 12 has a similar story. Acts 12:1-5″ About that time King Herod laid hands on some from the church to harm them. He had James, the brother of John, executed with a sword. When he saw that this pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter too. (This took place during the feast of Unleavened Bread.) When he had seized him, he put him in prison, handing him over to four squads of soldiers to guard him. Herod planned to bring him out for public trial after the Passover. So Peter was kept in prison, but those in the church were earnestly praying to God for him.”

When James was taken the church did nothing, and the king Herod was able to kill him. When Peter was taken the church woke up and prayed and the king failed to kill him.

Additional scripture:James 5 : 16 “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”
