Police in Nkhotakota district are keeping in custody a 46 year-old man for raping and impregnating his 15-year-old stepdaughter.
Nkhotakota Police spokesperson Williams Kaponda said the evil stepfather sexually abused the girl in August this year and the teenager is currently four months pregnant according to hospital results.
Kaponda said the mother of the victim was married to the suspect early this year but the two divorced following family disputes. After the split, the victim and her mother left for their home district Ntcheu.
But before the victim left for Ntcheu, she was coaxed by the suspect to go back to Nkhotakota back to continue staying with him. In August, the victim reported back as agreed and started living with his stepfather.
However, last week neighbours noticed a change in the girl’s appearance and village elders cornered the girl who confessed to be pregnant and to have been repeatedly raped by her stepfather.
On December 3 police arrested the suspect and charged him with defilement against section 138 (1) of the penal code.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon. He hails from Kamongo village in the area of senior chief Mwadzama in Nkhotakota district.
