…..as Red Lions beat Epac

Karonga United have been consigned to yet another disappointing defeat after they were beaten 2 nil at Mzuzu stadium on Sunday afternoon in Mzuzu.

It was Moyale Barracks who started the game well and deservedly took the lead in the 45th minute when Chamveka Gwetsani scored after Karonga United defenders were caught napping in the line of duty.

A minute after that goal Zondiwe Munthali doubled the soldier’s lead after he yet again capitalised on a Karonga United defensive error and 2 nil it was in favour of the visitors.

After the recess, the Karonga based side started dominating possession of the ball and created several scoring chances as they were in search for goals but the Moyale Barracks goalkeeper held firm until the very end of the game.

However, there was drama after the final whistle at Mzuzu stadium when Karonga United players started manhandling the referee claiming he favoured the soldiers as he denied Karonga United a clear penalty.

The result means that Karonga United have fallen further off their hopes of surviving the chop in Malawi top flight league. Oscar Kaunda and Kondwani Mwalweni will be feeling the heat now as Karonga United are now remaining with three games to wind up their season and they are sitting second from bottom.

Speaking to the media after the match, Karonga United assistant coach Oscar Kaunda conceded defeat and blamed match officials for the loss.

Speaking about the team’s hopes of surviving the chop, Kaunda said all is not lost as Karonga United still has a few games to play before they wind up their season.

On his part, Moyale Barracks assistant coach Charles Mhango was very delighted with the result and said his side still has plans to finish in the top five.

In other Tnm Super League matches played on Sunday, Red Lions beat Epac FC with Dan Ziba scoring the only goal of the match.

The result means Red Lions have moved to 8th on the table for the first time this season and they have recovered from their 2-1 away defeat to Silver Striker.
