It was the result no one from Civo Service United wanted, apart perhaps from Blue Eagles who are eyeing the championship.

Civo’ 1-nil defeat at home to Blue Eagles on Wednesday afternoon has left the team second from bottom with less than four matches to play.

Before this match, every Civo Service United supporter was optimistic of grabbing all the three points by the end of 90 minutes but Maxwell Salambula had other plans for the Civil Servants as he scored the only goal to take Eagles back to the top of the summit.

Civo were below par, their perfomance wasn’t that of a team desperate for a result, with Eagles slowly taking the game away from the hosts, goalless it was at half time.

In the second half, Charles Manda’s boys were nowhere near perfection as the visitors were aiming for the much important goal, and yes, Salambula notched home from the close range to silence the home fans, 1-0.

Nelson Kangunje and his troops pressed harder in search for the equalizer but Eagles’ defence stood firm to collect maximum points to move top of the standings with 51 points from 27 games, a point above second placed Kamuzu Barracks.

Civo’s maximum points have now been reduced to 36 points following the defeat and if they are to remain in the top flight, they must win all of their remaining games while hoping for Premier Bet Wizards and Dwangwa United defeats.

Their next assignment is on Sunday against inform Kamuzu Barracks at the same venue.
