Mangochi Police have arrested a 44 year-old man who was part of a gang that stole K2.5 million and other items from an Indian businessman in the district.
Mangochi Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Amina Daudi has identified the suspect as Rashid Robert Maloko.
The suspect together with four other friends on Thursday went to the house of lmran Yusuf, an lndian who resides and runs a business at Mangochi boma.
“That time Yusuf was chatting with his family at his house then suddenly he saw the suspect and his four friends who are still at large armed with Panga knives and axes and they ordered the victim to enter into the house and demanded money from him,” said Daudi.
As a result they managed to get away with K2.5 million cash, HP laptop and Samsung galaxy S4 mobile phone.
The next morning the victim recognized Rashid after he saw him roaming around Mangochi town and he informed the Police who arrested him and recovered K273,500 cash.
Investigations are still going on to arrest the remaining four suspects according to Daudi.
The suspect will soon appear in court to answer the charge of robbery with violence.
Rashid hails from Mwanyama village, Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi district.
