Police in Kasungu have arrested a 27-year-old guard at Kasungu Teachers College for sneaking into a female hostel at the college and stealing assorted items belonging to the students.
Police Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kasungu Harry Namwaza identified the suspect as Lameck Milanzi.
He said Milanzi who works as a watchman at the TTC on Thursday convinced his fellow workmate Stelia Jobe to knock off before time so that he should take over the duties from her.
“After Jobe had left, Milanzi strode into the hostels of female students whilst they were in class and stole various items,” Namwaza explained.
When the students reported the matter to management, attempts were made to investigate the issue and that is when it was discovered that the suspect had deliberately relieved Jobo of her duties to create room for him to commit the offence.
Namwaza said that Milanzi was therefore arrested in the morning hours of 17 November 2016.
The thief has since been charged with the offence of theft and will appear before court when investigations are completed. Milanzi comes from Vidzumo village in the area of Traditional Authority Mwase in Kasungu district.
