President Peter Mutharika Mutharika has hailed South African based Malawian Boxer Isaac Chilemba whom he jokingly said would want to fight to prove his robust health for his efforts to raise the country’s flag through boxing.

Writing on his official Facebook page, Mutharika said Chilemba’s patriotism bodes well for Malawi.

Isaac Chilemba lost recently to Ukranian Gvozdyk.

“Let me salute Isaac Chilemba for putting up a good fight in boxing. I am impressed with how he is successfully representing Malawi at the highest level of the sport,” wrote Mutharika.

“His appearances and success at that level positions Malawi among the best in as far as the sport is concerned and it only shows the world the kind of values we embrace as a nation,” Mutharika added.

According to Mutharika, despite his recent respectable losses in the ring, Chilemba is still a national hero and a patriotic son of the land.

“I wish him well as he undergoes surgery on his arm. It is our deepest wish to see him return to the ring as soon as possible to continue representing us well,” wrote Mutharika.

Recently, Golden boy Chilemba lost to Ukranian Gvozdyk meaning he has now lost his last two bouts.

In the ring it was Gvozdyk who accomplished his goal, forcing Chilemba to retire on his stool after the eighth round with a right elbow injury Saturday night on the Sergey Kovalev-Andre Ward undercard at the T- Mobile Arena.
