Government says Malawians must find ways to improve productivity using the small pieces of land that they have.

This is coming in as the country’s population is expected to increase, putting pressure on various resources especially land which remains the same size.

It is expected that Malawi’s population which is currently at 14 million will reach 50 million by the year 2030.

Minister of Lands Atupele Muluzi said this means that there is need for people to use wisely their land and make sure that their agricultural activities are giving them maximum benefit.

Muluzi said the recently passed land bills which are yet to be gazetted will give people ownership of land and thereby reduce poverty in the country.

“The country’s population is increasing at an alarming rate hence the need for people to manage land resources better,” said Muluzi.

He added that one way of making sure that land is being manageable is to ensure that there is security over land especially when it is being used for agriculture.
