Malawi College of Accountancy (MCA) has maintained that the college offers a good learning environment and its degrees meet minimum requirements.

This follows the decision by the National Council of Higher Education not to accredit MCA degree programmes saying the college does not provide a satisfactory teaching and learning environment. NCHE also observed that the degree programmes need reviewing to meet standards.

This has caused panic among students at the college but MCA management has urged the students to calm down saying the college has confidence in its degree programmes.

According to a press release signed by college principal Aggripah Phiri, the college has asked students to be calm since  due process is being followed.

“Following the release of the report which unfortunately is done simultaneously to institutions and the public, before the affected institutions have had a chance to respond, the college has submitted its position to the council,” reads part of the statement.

“We would like to ask students and other stakeholders to be patient as the due process is being followed,” the statement adds.

The stir has come in following the press release on 17th November by NCHE, a domestic tertiary education regulator, which blacklisted some institutions of tertiary education.

Other institutions which have suffered the same fate as MCA’s include Blantyre International University (BIU), Skyway University (SU), Exploits University and the African Bible College (ABC).

  1. NCHE want some money tn these private institutions, UNIMA has alot of problems, why don’t focus on those problems currently UNIMA is facing?……is UNIMA doing well?…..first solve the problems which Unima is currently facing, all those problems affecting both public and private Universities can be solved through proper implementation of laws. When UNIMA itself do not implement it? How can NCHE prove to Private Universities that they want to solve their problems when UNIMA itself has more problems to solve?……they should first be able to break all barriers against their education system!

  2. I need clarification in my argument i am stipulating below! MCA is a statutory CORP which abides to carry out duties as what the ACT OF PARLIAMENT says and how it was drafted prior before establishment.Ironically MCA was not offering Bachelors under its on BANNA of being a college. All in the blues MCA started offering Bachelors Degrees as it was a hot business in town craving and milking PENNIES from prospective students in form of tuition as their UNACCREDIATED counterparts the likes of BIU.My centre of argument is i never heard parliament tabling a bill involving amendment of the act of parliament regarding duties MCA is to dispatch to the public.I never heard the parliament making a UNIVERSITY COUNCIL towards the so called college issuing Degrees as it was the case with NRC.so even if MCA draggs NCHE to court i think they can be light in their tunnel. I think the ADMINISTRATION of the college didnt have power to implement the so called degrees above the ACT OF PARLIAMENT since its a public entity! #just my views

  7. Ithink we are mixing things here. NCHE is there to regurate, facilitate for good output in our colleges. It doesnt matter whelther its the gvt or pvt owned colleges or universities.Shortcuts, business as usual, tribalism leakage of exam, cheating all these have killed the industry.. Today kuwona graduate mmene akuganizira mkuchita zinthu zake u wonder which council approved this degree??, Some Lectures are buzy sleeping with young girls in exchange for exams, very bad!, We need Reform even at UNIMA,, its atotal mess, The crop these universities are deploying on the market its becoming questionable eachday passing. Half baked!. To me Iquite agree with NCHEs decision next time extend this gesture to Public institions…. Othewise the private colleges hv messed up our minds already. Kungoti ambiri akudabwa because sizinachitikepo mbuyomu but its awelcome development.. kuno ku malawi akangotchula kuti college xxxx is Internationally bla, bla bla … ife mtima khanyu… pamene kwaoko ndi ma community college.. .. Lero degree Bola mthumba…. uyipeza.. verybad!.. We cant develop as anation if we continue absorbing these degrees with no value..

  8. Dziko liri mmanja meagalu kkkkkkk kwaonse amend muli ndi ma degrees from mentioned school just know you are equal to form four graduate.kkkkkkk munthalika sadzatheka

  9. Its realy sad that malawians of this generation ‘ve developed a strange n stinking atitude, slowly we are heading to a big shame,we like a cursed nation,we are politicising everything untill we are no longer heard each other we are building less n distructing huge we are no longer united as one like before these are just de fruts of bad politics, MCA has been there for decades n nothing bad like this shit heard out from there, this NCHE is just another mad dog an enemy of progress, the assesment of this NCHE is based on distruction nothing else bt ufiti.

  10. Hahahaha now ur talking….even our Princo yesterday sheded more light on this….there is some sought of “politics” at NCHE thats why they want to turnish our image

  11. I am not a LAWYER nor aspire to be one and i need clarification in my argument i am stipulating below!
MCA is a statutory CORP which abides to carry out duties as what the ACT OF PARLIAMENT says and how it was drafted prior before establishment.Ironically MCA was not offering Bachelors under its on BANNA of being a college. 12. Kodi who owns mca ithought its agovernment institution somebody tell me ndipo kupanga accredit amapanga every year? nde munthu wapanga wajoina this year atapanga accredit then next year anene zoti its not accredited koma we are in total mess kumeneku kuyendetsa maphunziro kapena kuphwasula maphunziro ambuye atithandize sure.

  13. somehow sivuto la ma colleges, how come kuti MCA and other colleges akakhale organised as it needed Uni education to be while our government through Ministry of Education is not organised 2,,,Mwana mbuu make mbuu,,if our education sector officials are realy know what they hav to do ,ma colleges ena like skyway samayenela kuwalekelera ali pamalo pamene paja.the problem is mw has just rise ,nde dont worry this era is for transformation leaders, you know ppo hate change ,they fight change why, fear of losing their identity, posts and so on.but trust me if Nche wanna continue to pressure these ppo our education can change.and privates themselves might have develop strength ayd many malawians will start to rely on also privates colleges and university like the way secondary is now.

  14. If you go through the syllabuses it meets the international standard, ACCA does not accredit programmes anyhow it carries out thorough assessment of the staff being offered. BIU and other private universities passed the litmus test. NCHE akuyezera chani? And need has just come out that NCHE pragialized the assessment process. Ndekupanda nzeruko and yet you penalised institutions.

  15. 100% pambuyo pa MCA, even those that are holding higher pisitions in offices they still have papers from these colleges, ndye achotsedwe ntchitotu iyaaaa

  16. They Say That A Referee’s Decision Is Final!!! I Guess The Way Forward For Those Disqualified Is To Implement What The Higher Education Council Recommended!! It Still Buffles Some Of Us: How Come These Institutions Were Allowed To Start Degree Programmes Without Prior Approval?

  17. These colleges used to bribe the big fish at NICHE to have their programmes accredited. Now that we have a new boss let the truth come out. We need quality in the education system

    1. That’s big lie, anapanganso copy and paste, some of the universities are from overseas operating in many countries at international level zinangowavuta a NCHE

    1. Getting them clear review of colleges is done as planned as a quality control measure, so if you dwell on how was this done to award to previous students, then its wrong the body reguraly check and this works to the advantage of students to receive best staff not bogus and worth your money and time.

    2. I dont understand bcoz to me degrees are to be given to those who deserve them, those who passed wth frying colors, not someone who got 40 points.. degrees shud not be exchanged wth money but brains.

    3. inunso nde mwanama apa…@ MCA Requirement is 6 credits including english and Maths..komanso UNIMA cannot accommodate everyone.thats why these days ana ama 10 points akumapita ma colleges enawa…besides if MCA can teach a chartered accountant, angalephere ka Degree kochonga Ma Lectures?

    4. no wonder ur suprized wth the current dvt. y not UNIMA? the issue of degree is not an easy qtn, I kno some ppo from MCA who got a 9 from maths. do they deserve a dregree, at accountancy? that deals wth accounting??

    1. The management MUST look into what the controlling body asked them to do not fighting with them they can’t win this battle, implement the body’s recommendation ,its not over!

  18. MCA was there, has been there and is forever so who are u to dicredt it ,How maoy are 4m there are in offices today.. FOTSEKI ….WANKHUTA NTONJANI EFTI ! .

  19. We as students this decision made by NCHE has psychologically affected us and it is our since request to those holding such authority at NCHE to have a review on what they found..

  20. I agree with MCA, NCHE is misguided and lack direction. last year, the same colleges were acredited , so how cud there be a drastic change in less than a year. NCHE mwatilemera

    1. Its high time our country should embrace diversity if we are to develop. We still think Chanco, Poly, Com or Bunda are the best just bcose they are govnt universities. Yes, I attended Chanco , but it doesnt mean that i know better than those from BIU, or CU or MCA. NCHE shud help these private universities grow, than running such negative publicity.

  21. I totally see monopolization of education in Malawi. They want few that go through exclusive system. They protect their own security using different institutions. For example some career like law in other countries is easy access but in Malawi the way they protect it because most people will know how thing works in government.
