Thug cuts off man’s palms

A thug in Mangochi district on Saturday hacked off a man’s palms before running away.

Mangochi Police Station are hunting for the thug, who has been identified as 30 year-old Grem Louis.

knife-bloodMangochi Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Amina Tepani Daudi said the victim, 30 year-old Micheal Alfred, on Saturday was cycling from Namiyasi to Samama village which is along Monkey Bay -Mangochi road.

As the victim reached at Naming’unde Bridge, the suspect emerged from nowhere and attacked him, chopping off both his palms using a panga knife.

 

“The victim fell down and the suspect ran away but fortunately few minutes after the incident a good Samaritan who was passing by found the victim lying unconsciously and he took him to Mangochi District Hospital where he was later referred to Zomba Central Hospital but his condition is still not good,” said Daudi.

Nothing belonging to the victim was stolen, raising questions over the attacker’s motives.  The victim however identified the attacker.

If arrested, the suspect is going to appear in court to answer the case of grievous harm which is contrary to section 241 of the Penal code according to Daudi.

Grem hails from Kafulumira village, Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi district.
