The Blantyre magistrate court has sentenced a 22 years old man to 10 years Imprisonment with Hard Labor (IHL) for defiling a 9 old girl.
The convict, Damiano Rogers was arrested after defiling a girl in his residential area in June this year.
State prosecutor Justice Manolo told the court that Rogers took to the advantage of the absence of his wife to lure the young girl to his bed.
In mitigation the convict pleaded for lenience saying that his wife left him for another man just after the incident and therefore wanted to apologise.
He also added that the court should consider him with lighter punishment as he has not burnt his bricks.
In his ruling magistrate Innocent Nebi gave 10 years jail term arguing that cases of defilement are on increase in the country.
Rogers is from Mwembere village, Tradition Authority (TA) Somba in Blantyre city.
