Police in Dowa have arrested a 44-year old man identified as Jimmy Chimoto for killing his biological son Wilison Jimmy.
The suspect who murdered his son at a drinking joint last week and was at large claimed he was hiding at a friend’s house in Mponela where he was employed as a farmer. 
He was arrested after he surrendered himself to his village headman who then took him to Dzaleka police unit.
Police have since charged the suspect with murder as he acted contrary to section 209 of the penal code.
According to Kaponda, the father killed his son after the younger man failed to give the older man his maize.
“What happened was that the deceased borrowed maize from his father but when he was asked to give back the maize he told his father that at the time he did not have the grain.
“This angered the father who took a bicycle fork and started beating up his son on the head,” said Kaponda.
The son became unconscious and he was taken to Dowa District Hospital by well-wishers where upon arrival at the health facility he was pronounced died.
Postmortem conducted at Dowa District Hospital by health officials revealed that death was due to loss of blood caused by head injuries.
Both the suspect and the deceased come from M’gadamika village Traditional Authority Msakambewa in Dowa district.
