Silver, Bullets in goalless draw

…Karonga United edge past Blue Eagles

Silver Strikers and Nyasa Big Bullets missed an opportunity to dislodge league leaders Mafco FC at the top of the TNM Super League table following their goalless draw at Silver Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Having played each other in a FISD Cup on Wednesday where the Bankers edged out Bullets, the two teams met again in Lilongwe where they shared a point apiece.

The Central Bankers had some chances in the first half through Victor Limbani and Duncan Nyoni but the duo lacked finishing composure in front of goals. With Chiukepo Msowoya dropped to the bench, his replacement Muhammad Sulumba failed to inspire Bullets as he kept misfiring to the disappointment of the visiting fans.

Come second half, it was the same old story as both teams opted to tussle in the midfield, despite Bullets being below par in the middle of the park.

Limbani almost aroused the home fans when his deflected shot missed the goal mouth with an inch. Silver Strikers kept on pushing for the much needed goal but Chimwemwe Kumkwawa in goals for the visitors was very outstanding.

With less than few minutes to go, substitute Msowoya had his effort well blocked by Lucky Malata and after the final whistle, it ended goalless. The result sees Silver Strikers dropping to second with 43 points from 23 games while Bullets are now fourth with 42 points from 24 games.

At Mzuzu Stadium, a brace from Khumbo Msowoya inspired Karonga United to a 2-1 victory over Blue Eagles to move up to 13th in the standings with 21 points.

As for Eagles, they are now third with 42 points from 24 games.

Mafco still lead the standings with 44 points from 23 games.
