Police in Dowa district are hunting for a 44 year-old man for killing his 24 year-old son with a bicycle fork after the two fought over maize.
According to Dowa Police Public Relations Officer Richard Kaponda , the incident happened Thursday at a local beer joint in Mg’adamika village, Traditional Authority Msakambewa in the district.
He identified the father as Jimmy Chimoto and the son as Wilison Jimmy.
“What happened was that the deceased borrowed maize from his father a couple of days ago, and he was asked to return the maize but he told his father that at that time he did not have the maize to pay back,” Kaponda said.
This angered the father who took a bicycle fork and started beating up his son on the head.
Later, the son became unconscious and he was taken to Dowa District Hospital where upon arrival he was pronounced dead. Postmortem conducted at Dowa District Hospital revealed that death was due to head injuries.
Police are yet to arrest the father who will be tried for murder as he acted contrary to section 209 of the penal code.
Both the deceased and the suspect are from Mg’adamika village, Traditional Authority Msakambewa in Dowa District.
