Malawi President Peter Mutharika who made his first public appearance on Thursday in Mchinji has told Malawians that they should be voting in ruling party MPs if they are to get development in the country.
Speaking at a rally at which he introduced the DPP candidate in the Mchinji West by-election slated for November 1, Mutharika told the people gathered that only DPP MPs can talk to him.
“The other MPs are afraid of me, where will they even get me from?” asked Mutharika.
He was cheered by his party supporters who gathered at the rally.
Mutharika also told the people that his government has plans to develop the area.
At the same rally, Mutharika also rapped the Daily Times and Zodiak Broadcasting Station for wishing him dead. He was referring to the time he overstayed at the UN General Assembly.
“I am disgusted by these two,” said Mutharika. “It is disgusting to wish someone dead.”
This was the second time that Mutharika has hit at the two media houses over unfair criticism of him.
“I have a family and they were all worried with the rumours that I was dead,” he said.
The rumours of his death were mostly spread on the social media when the President went silent while on his trip in the United States.
