Two African footballers have been shortlisted in the 30 man preliminary list for the Ballon d’Or honour.

Africa’s lethal duo of Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez and Pierre Emeric Aubameyang have been included on the list following their impressive run of form since mid-last year.

Mahrez helped his English Premier League side, Leicester City, claim the league last season. If he did not find his name on the score sheet, then he provided assists to his teammates.

Having helped his side to Premier League glory, he was linked with a move to Spanish giants Barcelona but the deal did not materialize.

Aubameyang who is the current African player of the year is also in his harvesting season, banging goals for his German side now and again. The Borussia Dortmund forward plays a pivotal role for his side as he contributes most of the goals.

With the 2017 African Cup of Nations heading to his country, Aubameyang is expected to shine. A lot is also expected from Mahrez whose nation is among favourites to be crowned champions of Africa next year.
