…referee gets beaten by Bullets fans 

Defending Super League champions Nyasa Big Bullets missed the chance to go top following a goalless draw to Azam Tigers on Sunday afternoon.

Coming straight from their 3-all draw against Red Lions last week, Bullets looked to be cast in the hunt for the maximum points but their opponent were in no mood to concede goals as they defended jelously in the entire 90 minutes.

It was Tigers who created some goal scoring chances through play maker Yamikani Chester but failed to find the back of the net as Chimwemwe Kumkwawa in goals for the visitors made some stunning saves.

Bullets’s closest chance fell through just after the half mark through Chiukepo Msowoya who headed straight at William Thole in goals for Tigers.

Just minutes before the interval, Bright Munthali’s deflected shot was well saved by Kumkwawa before producing another save to deny Dan Kumwenda from putting the ball into the back of the net.

Bullets’ Anzeru Joseph was stretched off towards the end of the half following a rough tackle by Kumwenda and it was goalless at half time. Come second half, Diverson Mlozi came in for Collen Nkhulambe as Bullets tried to force something out of the game despite not playing their usual game.

Tigers were solid in defence and every attempt by Bullets ended in a frustration way.

Tigers grew into the game as the second half wore on as Munthalu curled an effort wide with the visitors’ first attempt, then his free kick found Patrick Gunde in acre of space at the back post but he shot wide.

It took a brilliant last ditch interception from Miracle Gabeya to deny Munthali the chance at a free run at goal as Tigers took control of the game by dominating the midfield battle, with Kumwenda and Peter Cholopi just too strong for their counterparts.

With minutes to play on the clock, referee Andy Kuseli disallowed Tigers’ goal for an infringement on Gabeya, leaving the hosts’ technical panel in total disbelief.

90 minutes on the clock, goalless it remained and three additional minutes were applied.

A minute into the half, Bullets’ effort was cleared on line by Tigers defence but the former thought there was a handball which was not given by Kuseli and after the final whistle, the referee was given some slaps by Bullets fans who were hiding in the tunnel.

The result takes Bullets to third with 41 points from 23 matches, a point behind leaders Silver Strikers.

At MDC Stadium, Innocent Bokosi and Boniface Kaulesi inspired Red Lions to a comfortable 2-nil victory over depleted Max Bullets to move up to 10th in the standings.

As for Max Bullets, they are still bottom of the standings with 8 points from 23 games.
