Malawian conjoined twins die at KCH due to blood shortage

Conjoined twins that were born over a week ago at Nkhotakota District Hospital have died in the course of a surgery to separate them, Malawi24 can report.



The twins died few hours before surgery to separate them at the Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe.

Spokesperson for KCH, Mable Chinkhata confirmed the death.

According to Chinkhata,kids were supposed to undergo surgery on Wednesday but the process was delayed due to shortage of blood suiting their blood group.

“The twin needed about 200ml of all negative blood group but due to the fact that the hospital did not them,we failed to carry on the surgery”,querried the PRO.

It is reported that the twins died as they were struggling to breathe and efforts to resuscitate them failed.
