Silver Strikers missed the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the summit following their goalless draw away to Epac FC on Monday afternoon.

A win for the Bankers would have extended their lead at the top with 43 points from 21 games but their front line fired blanks in the entire 90 minutes despite Epac finishing with ten men on the field following a red card to Kelvin Thotho in the second half.

Lanken Mwale had the first chance of the match but he fired wide off the goal post.

From there, the Bankers launched a stunning counter hurricane attack through Victor Limbani and Tizgowere Kumwenda but the duo failed to put the ball into the back of the net as the hosts’ defence was able to clear the danger away.

The midfield battle intensified as Innocent Tanganyika and Timothy Chitedze were tussling for the ball, resulting in fewer chances created for the two teams and goalless it was at half time.

With Big Bullets trailing 3-1 at Kamuzu Stadium, the Bankers had all the chances to move three points ahead of the defending champions but they played without intent.

Just minutes into the half, Thotho was given marching orders for exchanging words with the referee. Despite this, Silver Strikers lacked power upfront and after 90 minutes of play, goalless it ended.

The result sees Silver Strikers at the top with 41 points but if Blue Eagles win on Saturday, they will likely be dislodged.

At Chitowe Stadium, ten man Civo Service United were thumped 3-1 by Dwangwa United to drop into the 13th position.

Victor Harawa and Gerald Mwanza were among the scorers as Dwanga United moved out of the drop zone following the victory.

The teams have 19 points each but Dwangwa have a superior goal difference than the Servants who are yet to win in the second round of the top flight.

At Mzuzu Stadium, Mzuni FC recorded their first win in the second round thanks to a 1-nil victory over Karonga United.

The Green Intellectuals are now on 6th position with 34 points as for Karonga United, they are still in the drop zone with 18 points from 21 games.
