Confirming to Malawi24, Blantyre police deputy police spokesperson Andrew Mayawo said Frank was admitted at TB ward in September but, together with his wife, he devised a plan to steal the blankets.

After visiting her husband at the hospital, the wife used to take some hospital blankets home.

The theft was revealed after another person who was also admitted in the same ward reported the matter to security personnel who tipped the police.

Police arrested the couple on Monday this week and charged them with theft since they acted contrary to section 278 of the penal code.

The two however pleaded not guilty to the charges when they appeared before Blantyre magistrate court on Tuesday.

Frank and Sundeni come from Kudza village, Traditional Authority (TA) Changata in Thyolo district.
