Man in cooler for stealing K0.5 Million

Police in the lakeshore district of Nkhotakota are keeping in custody Evance Dasten for stealing money amounting to K500, 000 and assorted clothes valued at K200,000 belonging to his relative.

According to Nkhotakota Police Public Relations Officer, the suspect stole the money and clothes when his relative Mr Thomas Pemba had gone to church and left him at the house in Chakaka village, Traditional Authority Mwadzama in the district.

crime (2)“When they returned they found that the suspect had left the house with the money and clothes,” said Kaponda. The suspect was arrested at Kaphatenga in Salima by Salima police officers who had been tipped by well-wishers.

“Money amounting to K10,000 and cellphone which the suspect claims to have bought using the stolen money were recovered,” Kaponda said.

Police also managed to recover assorted clothes, shoes and school bag.

Meanwhile, Police are trying all efforts to recover the other money and clothes. The suspect will appear in court to answer the charge of theft. Dasten hails from Lavu village, Traditional Authority Chiwere in Dowa district
