Malawi24.com drums up support for stranded pupil.

Just few hours after Malawi24 shared to the world the story of a Ntcheu pupil who has been selected to a national secondary school from a very remote area but could not afford to pay school fees, it can now be confirmed that the boy Masautso Khondowe will join his fellow students as well-wishers have now helped him.

In an interview on Monday, Kadambwe Primary School Deputy Headteacher Cecilia Kambalame said a Lilongwe based woman has pledged to support Khondowe and that as she was speaking the well-wisher had already paid school fees and sent transport for him to be at the compounds of Likuni Boys in Lilongwe tomorrow.

Kambalame further disclosed that three other well-wishers have also shown interest to support the 15-year-old boy.

”We are also tipped that three other well-wishers were touched after receiving the news, it is awesome nobody expected this and even our PEA is very excited,” explained Kambalame.

She further said that Khondowe’s father couldn’t believe what was happening.

”I tell you he could not believe this, him together with our school just thank those who have felt it and Malawi24. God bless them,” he concluded.

In his words, a Masters in Geology student at the Oklahoma State University, Victor Nyalugwe, who phoned us all the way from United States of America (USA) upon reading the article commended Malawi24 for exposing the story of the stranded Khondowe.

“Keep on trying to put people out…… You have done a very good job to this child, I appreciate once again,” encouraged Nyalugwe.

Khondowe got his selection to Likuni Boys Secondary School in this year’s Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) examinations but couldn’t make it because of poverty until soon when a relative opted to send him to a community day secondary school in Balaka district hoping to find a sponsor.

One of the managers at Malawi24, Andrew Cane Chilap0ndwa said he was excited with the development saying one of the roles in the media industry is to bring change in the society.

“As Malawi24, we are very excited with the development because our role as the media is to bring change in the society. This is what we want as an online publication because at times, online media is taken us not considerate of the society but here we are, a student has been rescued because of the story we carried, we are very excited,” he said.
