Malawian man arrested for raping his pregnant niece

A Malawian man aged 39 in Mangochi district is in police custody for raping his six month pregnant niece.

Mangochi Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Amina Tepani Daudi has identified the man as Smith Manyenje who raped his niece while her husband was away.

According to Daudi, the suspect went to the house of the victim and told her that they had to discuss some family issues.

But he left without mentioning the issue and promised to come back later.

At night the rapist went back to his nieces’ house. He found her sleeping and he started caressing her.

“The victim escaped but the suspect caught her. He then raped her and ran away,” said Daudi.

The victim reported the incident to her relatives and medical report conducted at Chimwala Health Centre revealed that the woman was raped.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon to answer the charge of rape contrary to section 133 of penal code.

Smith hails from Mwatakata Village, Traditional Authority Chimwala in Mangochi.
