FISD Challenge Cup National draw takes place today

The National draw for the inaugural FISD Challenge Cup will take place this afternoon in Lilongwe at the Zodiak Television Studios.

According to the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Competitions Managers Gomezgani Zakazaka, there will be no seeding during the draw as all the 16 teams will be put in one pot.

“There will be no seeding during the draw as all the 16 teams will be placed in one pot which will start with the round of 16 quarterfinals, semis and the final itself. There might be a possibility of seeing regional teams playing against each and Super League giants facing against each other,” he said.

Big Bullets, Blue Eagles, Silver Strikers, Civo United, Epac, Dwangwa United, Kamuzu Barracks and Mighty Wanderers are the teams that made it through to the National level from the Super League preliminary phase.

Six teams from the Regional Playoffs notably Dululu FC, Sayama FC (Southern Region), Dwangwa Town Hammers, Lake Valley FC (Central Region) and Zolozolo and Rumphi Pirates from the Northern Region qualified for the National level.

However, Nsanama and Migowi from Southern Region will battle it for the third slot as they play in the match for the third place, with Tiakalulu and Dedza Young Soccer from the Central Region battling it out for third slot as they play in the match for a third place.

The quarterfinals of the cup will kick off on the weekend of 4th to 5th November, with the semifinals scheduled to take place from 19th-20th November before the final of the cup on 10th December 2016.

The winner will walk away with a trophy and K10 million in prize money.
