The Malawi Police Service says it is saddened by the increase in road accidents in the country.

Inspector General of Malawi Police Lexten Kachama said it is very worrisome to see that instead of the road accidents being reduced, they are rising.

“Malawi is one of the peaceful countries, it is one of the countries in the world where there is no civil war and there is no shedding of blood due to fighting.”

“The blood which we are seeing now is through the road accidents which is a very pathetic situation. So we are making it possible that whilst we are reducing number of crimes, we should also reduce the number of road accidents happening,” said Kachama.

He further condemned all business practitioners who transport people on top of their loaded trucks saying the practice is as well contributing to road accidents.

The police chief however urged the public to work hand in hand with the police in order to reduce the number of road accidents.

He also warned all careless road users that they will be dealt with accordingly. Over the last month, the Malawi police registered over ten road accidents which claimed 20 lives.

  1. Always blaming police, this is the reason why accidents will be the song of the day.I am not condemning u for their blame but u shud at least also look to the judiciary and their sentences.A driver can kill more people and found on the wrong. Go and find out the punishment.we are indeed to blame but u also help us in this issue.

  10. Why worrying malawi police have you forgotten your bribes you are taking to unprofessional drivers driving along the country? Cars /buses with no tyres you accept them to drive as long as they gives you bribes
So here are the results of your good job, don’t worry Malawi Police just go to attend their funeral and eat nsima ya ndiwo nyama

  11. Malawi’s roads are too narrow, deadly sharp bends for any driver to drive safely is not an easy game.
Bridges are also a major concern to the accident chaos.
You can’t drive at a standard authorised speed of the roads as any time you will be caught with an accident trap.
Count narrow bends from Salina to Dwangwa and its bridges and from Mzuzu to Dwangwa M5 lake shore road and M1 from Jenda to Mzuzu are terrible traps.
Who horrible cheap engineers builds those roads.
How many years have those narrow bridges stood on the surface of the rods till to date?
Roads brings hope to many developing nations and like this Malawi will never attract investors to the shores of Malawi.

  15. Police should not worry. They don’t care about people’s lives, they always on the road to correct money from road users not to protect and save them. Many vehicles are road worthy but everyday they are operating on the roads. Change the system!

    1. You put the police down, when your wheelbarrows run into one another you call in them to get rid of or take your remains to hospital.
