Boy loses leg after falling off moving train

A six year-old boy in Mchinji district has lost his leg and suffered other severe injuries after falling off a moving train.

The boy, Lameck Mtonga, was train hopping but he fell and the train run over his legs, cutting off the left leg and breaking the right one.

Mchinji Police Public Relations Officer Kaitano Lubrino said the accident took place on Sunday at around 8am at the railway main station near Masautso Village in the area of Traditional Authority Zulu in the district.

According to Lubrino, the victim was playing along the railway line and when the train came he tried to steal a ride it but in the process he fell down.

“Eventually, the train ran over his legs and he also sustained big cut on the forehead,” added Lubrino.

At the moment the victim is under observational treatment at Mchinji Hospital as he is waiting for the doctor’s decision to refer him to Kamuzu Central Hospital for rehabilitation services
Medical reports indicate that the victim is not facing challenges when eating food and drinking water
