Police in the lakeshore district of Nkhotakota are keeping in custody a 24 year-old man for breaking into MACOHA offices on Thursday in the district and stealing various items.
Nkhotakota Police Public Relations Officer Sub Inspector Williams Kaponda identified the suspect as Bomani Billy whom together with his friend who is at large attacked the office and stole various items.
According to Kaponda, the two suspects were armed with panga knives and tied up the watchman with a rope.
“The duo broke into the office and stole three laptop computers, two laptop bags, one camera and cash amounting to K52,000,” said Kaponda.
“Upon getting the information about the incident, police mounted a roadblock that led to arrest of Billy while his friend escaped and is at large,” he added.
All stolen items have been recovered while items that the duo used to attack the office such as hacksaw, pick, screwdrivers and torches have been seized.
The suspect will appear in court to answer the charge of robbery.
Billy hails from Chinyama village, Traditional Authority Mabuka in Mulanje district.
