Bright Munthali was the hero of the day as he scored five goals to inspire Azam Tigers to a comfortable 7-1 victory over rookies Karonga United in a league match played at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The routing started just after 13 minutes into the first half when Munthali’s header from a corner kissed the back of the net to give Tigers the lead against the visitors.
From there, the hosts were everywhere as Munthali netted four more goals before the interval to make it 5-nil.
In the second half, the home side continued from where they stopped as they scored the sixth goal just seconds into the half.
The visitors, who had a game to forget on Saturday when they lost 4-nil to Mighty Wanderers, were outsmarted in every angle as the home side continued their dominance without mercy and they got on the score board again for their 7th goal of the day.
The rookies had a consolation just before the final whistle to put the match on 7-1.
The victory sees Tigers dislodging Moyale Barracks in the standings with 29 points from 19 games.
As for the rookies, they are still stuck in the drop zone with 14 points from 18 games, two points adrift of safety.
At Chitowe Stadium, Tony Mbulu scored the only goal as Mafco FC eased past resilient Epac FC to move up to second position in the standings with 34 points from 18 games, just a point behind first placed Blue Eagles FC.
