Police in Mchinji district have condemned the high levels of domestic violence taking place in the district.

The law enforcers made the remarks following a recent case in which a woman in the district hit his husband with a hammer in the head and spilled acid to his face after a quarrel broke out over a bicycle and other house items.

Police identified the victim as 40 year-old Brighton Sosten from Nanthambe village Traditional Authority Santhe in Kasungu and the wife as Tereza Njirankhondo from Mikonga Village Traditional Authority Zulu in Mchinji.

rapeMchinji police deputy spokesperson sub inspector Rome Chauluka says there is need for sensitization on the issue of domestic violence.

“Many people need to be sensitized on the danger of the domestic violence that they do in the houses because people seems to take violence as a solution whenever they have any disagreement in the families,” said Chauluka.

He added that nowadays it is not only men who are mistreating women in families since women are also abusing their husbands.
