Former Inspector General of Malawi Police Service Mary Nangwale has died this morning after a long illness.
According to family members, Nangwale died in the early hours of Sunday at Mwayiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre.

The program for the funeral is yet to be released but mourners are gathering at her sister’s home in Kanjedza in the city.
Meanwhile, the current Inspector General of Police Lexten Kachama has expressed regret at the death of Nangwale.
Nangwale was appointed by late President Bingu wa Mutharika to become the first female Inspector General of Malawi Police but Parliament did not confirm her and she was replaced.
Government then redeployed Nangwale to the Malawi High Commission in London where she worked as first secretary for political affairs.
