All set for FISD cup launch
The preparations for 2016 FISD Cup have been completed and all is now set for the launch of the trophy today in Chikhwawa.
The cup is set to be launched at Kalulu stadium in the district with an opening match between Dululu football club and Mwanza Madrid football club.
According to Football association of Malawi (FAM), the football governing body is ready to manage the cup that FISD has entrusted them with.
FAM’s competitions manager Gomezgani Zakazaka urged all football fans to converge at Kalulu stadium on Saturday to watch the interesting opening match in the southern region.
“We are completely ready to take this cup that FISD limited has entrusted us with to the people, and I urge people from all walks of life to come to the launch, it’s their cup,” Zakazaka told the media.
The launch will also invite veteran Musician Lucius Banda and the Zembani Band who are expected to give full force of entertainment before and during the launch day.
Newly appointed minister of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development Henry Mussa, officials from FISD Limited, and football governing body’s president Walter Nyamilandu Manda are expected grace the event.
An interesting and colourful slow journey with the trophy on an open shuttle – to allow people appreciate and see the trophy – is expected to start from Mpira village in Blantyre, to Nsanje through Chikhwawa and thereafter the party will return to Chikwawa to end with a night dance.
FISD Cup replaced Standard Bank Cup which phased out in 2015 after sponsors Standard Bank pulled out.
