Silver maul Maxi Bullets as Nomads are frustrated in Zomba
A brace from Binwell Katinji and a goal each from Lucky Malata and Timothy Chitedze inspired the Central Bankers to a comfortable 4-nil victory over relegation bound MTV Maxi Bullets in a TNM Super League match played on Wednesday afternoon at Silver Stadium.
Coming straight from their disappointing Carlsberg Cup final defeat to Mighty Wanderers on Saturday, Silver Strikers vented their anger on Max Kapanda’s boys in a one sided match in front of mammoth crowd.
The rookies, who are bottom of the standings, were also coming from a 2-nil defeat to Kamuzu Barracks last week and they tried their level best to unsettle the hosts in the opening minutes but Malata, Chitedze, and Duncan Nyoni made things happen for the Bankers.
It did not take long before Katinji opened the scoring from a free kick that was taken by Malata.
A minute later, Malata turned from provider to scorer when he netted the second goal for the hosts from another set piece to make it 2-nil.
Come second half, Chitedze made it three nil following a brilliant move involving Nyoni, Katinji, and Thuso Paipi who were vibrant in the match.
The visitors had their first realistic chance through Sparrow Msowoya whose effort hit the woodwork.
Just when everybody thought the goals were enough, Katinji completed the rout with a fantastic goal to take his side up to second in the standings with 32 points from 16 games with a game in hand to play.
As for the rookies, they are still stuck at the bottom of the standings with 7 points from 18 matches.
At Zomba Community Centre Ground, Red Lions’ Innocent Bokosi scored from the spot in the dying minutes of the match to cancel out Jafali Chande’s 71st minute strike for the two teams to share points.
The result sees the Nomads occupying position 9 with 28 points from 16 games.
